UKMFA and HART sent an Open Letter to James Murray, the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, warning him of the dangers to public health of adding synthetic folic acid to flour.
We laid out the flawed rationale and lack of safety studies to justify the new mandate and the lack of wisdom and ethics in seeking to mass medicate the UK public through a staple food. As the risks outweigh the benefit for the majority of the population we urged him to repeal the amendment.
